Improving Francisco’s Memory

Scene: Dr. Kovacโ€™s Clinic โ€“ A conversation about diet and memory

Dr. Kovac sits across from Francisco, Joeโ€™s friend from the Cafรฉ Algarve community, holding a clipboard.

Dr. Kovac:
โ€œFrancisco, the brain is like a garden. If the soil is poisoned, the flowers cannot grow. But if you feed it properly, it can recover surprising strength.โ€

He slides a piece of paper across the desk.

Dr. Kovacโ€™s Brain-Support Diet

Morning

  • ๐Ÿ Green apples โ€“ rich in polyphenols that support brain cells
  • ๐Ÿฅ Kiwi โ€“ vitamin C and antioxidants that help protect neurons

Midday

  • ๐ŸŸ Sardines โ€“ packed with omega-3 fatty acids (DHA), which the brain uses for memory and repair
  • ๐ŸŒฐ Walnuts โ€“ contain healthy fats and polyphenols linked to cognitive support

Snack

  • ๐Ÿˆ Dried jackfruit โ€“ fiber and micronutrients for energy and gut health (the gut influences brain chemistry)

Dessert

  • ๐Ÿซ Blueberry pie (in moderation) โ€“ blueberries are one of the most studied fruits for memory support because of their anthocyanins.

Drinks

  • ๐Ÿ’ง Spring water from the cooler โ€“ hydration is essential for brain function
  • ๐ŸŒฑ Basil seed drink โ€“ provides fiber and minerals
  • ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฅฅ Pineapple and coconut drink โ€“ electrolytes and natural sugars for energy

Dr. Kovac leans back.

Dr. Kovac:
โ€œThere have been writers like Eustace Mullins who argued that aluminum cookware contributed to memory diseases like Alzheimer’s disease. His claims are controversial, but the concern about metals in the brain did inspire scientists to study environmental factors.โ€

He taps the diet sheet again.

Dr. Kovac:
โ€œModern research doesnโ€™t prove aluminum pots caused Alzheimerโ€™s, but we do know antioxidants, omega-3 fats, hydration, and whole foods support the brain. This diet is about reducing inflammation and feeding your neurons what they need to rebuild connections.โ€

Francisco smiles.

Francisco:
โ€œSo the cure isโ€ฆ sardines and blueberry pie?โ€

Dr. Kovac laughs.

Dr. Kovac:
โ€œNot a cure, my friend. But itโ€™s a good start for keeping the mind sharp.โ€

Paging Dr. Furtado – Lil Wayne

[Scene: County General Hospital โ€“ Neurology Department]

(The hospital intercom crackles.)

PA:
“Dr. Nelly Furtado to Neurology. Dr. Furtado to Neurology, please.”

(Dr. Luka Kovaฤ, wearing his white coat and a concerned look, stands outside Room 402, reviewing a chart. Inside, Lil’ Wayne sits on the hospital bed, looking a bit disoriented but cracking a faint smile.)

Dr. Kovaฤ (speaking into his pager):
“Nelly, I need you here. We’ve got a patient with acute memory loss โ€” possible substance-related.”

(Moments later, Dr. Nelly Furtado, dressed sharply but casually, strides in with a clipboard.)

Dr. Furtado:
“What’s the story?”

Dr. Kovaฤ:
“Lil’ Wayne. He’s been experiencing significant memory lapses. No trauma. Labs suggest neurochemical imbalance, possibly from drug abuse.”

Dr. Furtado (nodding thoughtfully):
“Yeah, this kind of memory loss is often the result of chronic drug toxicity. We’re looking at neurotransmitter depletion, oxidative stress… I’ll start him on high-dose B vitamins โ€” B1, B6, B12 โ€” to repair nerve damage.”

Lil’ Wayne:
“B vitamins? Bet. Anything to get my mind right.”

Dr. Kovaฤ:
“Good. But he also needs to stay away from glyphosate-contaminated foods and microplastics. They’re neurotoxic.”

(Wayne raises an eyebrow.)

Dr. Kovaฤ (gently but firmly):
“Stick to organic food whenever you can. No processed junk. No plastic bottled water if you can help it.”

Dr. Furtado:
“Let’s boost your recovery. I’ll write a list.”

(She jots quickly.)

  • Coconut oil โ€” a tablespoon daily. Good for brain energy.
  • Black seed oil โ€” natural antioxidant.
  • Turmeric โ€” fights brain inflammation.
  • Ginkgo biloba โ€” improves blood flow to the brain.
  • Lionโ€™s Mane mushroom โ€” promotes nerve growth.
  • Omega-3 supplements โ€” DHA for brain repair.
  • Magnesium โ€” calms the nervous system.
  • Fresh blueberries, walnuts, and leafy greens โ€” brain foods.

Dr. Kovaฤ:
“And no more lean, Wayne. No more purple drinks. You want your future โ€” your music, your family โ€” you have to choose life now.”

(Lil’ Wayne looks down, quiet for a moment, then nods.)

Lil’ Wayne:
“I got you, Doc. Real talk.”

(Dr. Furtado pats him on the shoulder.)

Dr. Furtado:
“One day at a time. We’ll get you back.”

(The two doctors exchange a hopeful glance as the scene fades.)
