Start: Commercial–Broadway Station

This is the big transfer station for the Expo Line and Millennium Line on Commercial Drive and Broadway.

Destination: Cafe Algarve

Joe’s Walking Directions (about 8–10 minutes)

1. Exit the station toward Commercial Drive.
   When you come out, you’ll be at the busy intersection of Commercial Drive and East Broadway.
2. Walk south on Commercial Drive.
   Go downhill a bit. You’ll pass cafés, small shops, and a few Italian and Portuguese spots.
3. Go about 2 blocks.
   Keep walking until you reach East 12th Avenue.
4. Turn left (east) onto East 12th Ave.
5. Walk half a block.
   Look along the street for a small neighborhood Portuguese grocery-café.
6. You’ve arrived.

Joe would usually tell someone:

“Just walk down Commercial from Broadway, take a left on 12th, and halfway down the block you’ll find Cafe Algarve. Small place, big Portuguese heart.”
